Ponchatoula History Presentation by. Jim Perrin " Ponchatoula, The Early Years 1852-1877" In-Person

On May 15th, historian Jim Perrin will host a power point presentation on the

early history of the Ponchatoula community.  The program will be held at six p.m. in the

Ponchatoula branch of the Tangipahoa Parish Library on North Fifth Street.

            The presentation, entitled “Ponchatoula: The Early Years, 1852-1877,” will discuss

the construction of the railroad through this area, the creation of Ponchatoula by James

B. Clarke, briefly cover the area Civil War events, and post war developments in the

community.  Perrin will discuss how economic, political, and cultural factors affected

the character of the community.  A selection of local history books will be available for

review.

            Don’t miss this special presentation at six o’clock on May 15th in the Ponchatoula

Public Library.
